SMOKIN' JOE


7th of Nov, 2011 emerged as a shocking day for all the boxing lovers, Joe Frazier is no more. Joe Frazier commonly known as "Smokin' Joe", was born on January 12, 1944 Beaufort, South Carolina, USA. His birth name was Joseph William Frazier. Joe Frazier was born in the house of Rubin and Dolly Frazier in the town of Laurel Bay, Beaufort, South Carolina. Joe Frazier was great Olympic and Undisputed World Heavyweight boxing champion, who started his professional career in 1965 and his career ended in 1976,he fought his  comeback fight in 1981. Frazier was one of the top contender during the late 1960s, he defeated the opponents that consist of Jerry Quarry, Oscar Bonavena, , Eddie Machen, Doug Jones, George Chuvalo and Jimmy Ellis  to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion in 1970, and he also defeated Muhammad Ali in the "Fight of Century" in 1971.But two years later Frazier lost his title when he was defeated by George Foreman. He fought again with the spirit of beating Joe Bugner, he lose a rematch against Ali, but beat Quarry and Ellis. Joe Frazier's last challenge came in 1975, but unfortunately he was beaten again by Ali in their brutal rubber match. He then retired in 1976 after a second loss to Foreman. But Joe made a comeback fight in 1981; he wanted to fight just once, before retiring for good, from boxing. The International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO) rates Frazier in the category of the ten greatest heavyweight’s champions of all time. Frazier was an inductee of both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame, who made America proud on himself. Joe used to down his opponents with relentless pressure. Frazer's best known punch was a powerful left hook, which was shown for most of his knockouts. After retiring, Joe Frazier made guest appearances in many Hollywood movies, and even in two episodes of The Simpsons. Frazier's son Marvis also became a boxer and was trained by Frazier himself, although Marvis was unable to reach his father's success. Frazier, after retirements continue to train fighters in his gym in Philadelphia. But his later years saw the unending bitter rivalry with Muhammad Ali, which created controversies. Joe fought Total 37 fights and won 32. He just losses 4 fights in his career and 1 fight was draw. This shows that Joe Frazier was a great boxer and remained the tough competition for all the other boxers, for whole of his life.
         Doctor diagnosed Frazier and declared liver cancer in late September 2011 and then Joe was admitted to hospice care. He then took his last breathe on November 7, 2011 when he was only67) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA .
